America's four decade old award for daytime soaps, game shows, talk shows and cooking programs - the Daytime Emmy - is pushing into the digital age.
Online "web soaps" such as Anacostia, The Bay, Beacon Hill and East Los High have been nominated alongside traditional soaps such as The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless.
And while traditional networks such as CBS, ABC and NBC still scooped the pool with 62, 35 and 20 nominations apiece, next-generation broadcasters such as Netflix (13 nominations), YouTube (9), Amazon (7) and Hulu (3) also put in a solid showing.
Despite a decade of steep decline in the genre, four iconic soap operas have been nominated for outstanding drama series: The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of Our Lives, General Hospital and The Young and the Restless.
The four online soap operas - Anacostia, The Bay: The Series, Beacon Hill and East Los High - compete in their own category, which is called "outstanding new approaches to drama".
The outstanding guest actor category delivers the strongest pedigree of any category, with television icons such as Meredith Baxter (Family Ties), Sally Kellerman (Star Trek), Donna Mills (Knots Landing) and Ray Wise (Twin Peaks) nominated for guest roles in daytime soap operas.
A host has not yet been announced for the US telecast; the awards will be streamed online outside the US.
The creative and technical Daytime Emmys will be awarded as a non-televised ceremony planned for April 24, which will be hosted by Jeopardy host Alex Trebek and actress Florence Henderson, best known as Carol Brady from The Brady Bunch.
The 42nd annual Daytime Emmys will be awarded on Sunday, April 26, in the same Warner Bros soundstage that the films Casablanca, Ghostbusters and Jurassic Park were shot.
