A P-plate driver has been charged with drink-driving after travelling more than 200 kilometres just before he allegedly blew more than three times the legal limit.
Police were conducting breath tests on the Sturt Highway at Hay on Friday night when they noticed a vehicle at the bowsers of the Shell service station.
They breath-tested the 29-year-old driver, who allegedly returned a positive reading, around 11.20pm.
He was arrested and taken to the Hay police station, where he underwent a breath analysis.
That test returned a high range reading of .17, police said.
The P-plate driver – who is restricted to a zero blood alcohol limit – was charged with high range drink-driving and has had his licence suspended.
Police said the man had driven from Ivanhoe, 210 kilometres north, to Hay before he was arrested at the service station.
