Saturday 8.30am: A man has died after he was hit by a car near Shellharbour on Friday night.
Police say the 32-year-old from Cambridge Park, near Penrith, was walking along the M1 Princes Motorway at Dunmore when he was struck about 10pm.
The man died at the scene.
The driver of the car, a 46-year-old woman, was uninjured but taken to Shellharbour Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.
Officers from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command are investigating the incident.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
The motorway was closed southbound between Oak Flats Interchange and Shellharbour Road until about 1.20am on Saturday.
Acting Inspector Michael Green, from Wollongong police, said the man was dressed in black clothing at the time of the accident.
Friday 11pm: All southbound lanes are closed on the Princes Motorway in Dunmore due to an accident involving a pedestrian at Shellharbour Road.
It’s the third accident involving a pedestrian in the region in the space of a week.
Southbound traffic is being diverted into New Lake Entrance Road.
One of three northbound lanes is also closed on the highway.
Motorists are advised to use the diversions in place and allow additional travel time.
Emergency services are on site and traffic crews are attending.
