NOTHING says stress like toddlers: the mess, the chaos, the noise — and the potential for accidents.
So while it would be nice for our homes to look like something from a magazine spread, it's important to remember that little people occupy a space much closer to the ground than the rest of us and move at a much higher velocity.
It's this speed, coupled with perpetual motion, that inspires tip No. 1: Make sure all rugs and runners are secured with non-skid backings.
The corners on furniture, particularly coffee tables, are often just the right height to connect painfully with a toddler's face, so consider buying furniture with rounded corners and soft sides.
An ottoman can double as a low table as well as storage.
It goes without saying that vases and ceramics should be moved to higher ground (to shelves) but the trailing wires of electronic equipment, table and floor lamps can be lethal when pulled — by electric shock or causing something heavy to fall on a little one's head.
Gaffer tape may not look trendy but it's better than a dead or injured child.
It's also a good idea to choose seating that cannot tip over easily, make sure tablecloths don't dangle over the edge and fit all bathroom cupboards with childproof locks.
