WIN News sport presenter Lincoln Humphries' response to the Ice Bucket Challenge has created a storm of controversy over his online comments.
The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has seen dozens of personalities bucketed with ice water this week, raising money for Motor Neurone Disease research.
In response to a request to undergo the challenge, Humphries posted a personal message to his mates on his own wall, urging people to consider supporting other charities instead.
"Ice is for keeping produce fresh and beers cold," he said in the video.
"Instead of pouring fresh water and wasting ice over your own head, here's a list of charities (to support)."
The video went viral on YouTube, viewed more than 1.4 million times, attracting both support and a barrage of abuse.
On Thursday, Humphries told WIN News viewers that the only error of judgement was using the network's materials and resources to make what was "absolutely a personal statement".
"What I was thinking at the time was a message of pure charity, and to nominate everyone everywhere, to give what they can to whom they deem worthy," he said.
