Jeff Horn is "highly likely" to defend his WBO welterweight title against American Terence Crawford in New York's Madison Square Garden on April 14, Horn's trainer Glenn Rushton says.
The details were agreed just before Christmas with promoter Bob Arum, but Mr Rushton told Fairfax Media on Friday he and Horn would prefer the fight to be held in Las Vegas on April 21, as initially agreed and planned.
However, Mr Rushton said all was not locked in yet, with a final decision to be made on whether the fight takes place on either date in either city.
However, the Golden Knights ice hockey team were the ones standing in the way of having the fight the Las Vegas, with a potential scheduling clash if they make the finals.
Mr Rushton said the venue choice couldn't be left to the last minute to see if the ice hockey would clash and described Mr Arum as "a great promoter, but not a magician".
Horn's trainer added that the preparation for Crawford would be different to previous bouts.
"There's always changes depending on the opponent, we prepare for the event we're about to face," he said.
"We will tweak sparring partners and intensity and the drills we do."
Horn has a busy schedule in April - Mr Rushton said the Brisbane-based boxer hoped to watch a friend's fight on April 7 and had also agreed to attend his sister's wedding on April 28.
"She [his sister] would kill him if he wasn't there, that might be [Jeff's] next title defence," Mr Rushton said.
