The Parramatta Eels have celebrated its 70th season by breaking its membership record.

The Eels passed 24,000 members for the first time and the club is well on its way to its 2017 goal of 25,000 members.

Parramatta is one of three NRL clubs to pass 20,000 memberships this season and have the biggest membership base in western Sydney and the third highest in the NRL.

Eels head coach Brad Arthur said the players and coaches were proud to play their part in the fifth consecutive year of record-breaking membership.

“We would like to say a big thank you to our passionate and loyal Eels members for helping us make history in our 70th anniversary year,” he said.

“It’s great to see our members continue to support us in big numbers each year and it really means a lot to the boys when they look out and see a sea of blue and gold in the grandstands.”

Currently sitting in ninth place on the NRL ladder, Parramatta will host the fourth-placed St George-Illawarra Dragons at ANZ Stadium on Sunday at 4pm.
