‘Distressed’ child found in Merrylands West

Police are appealing for information after a small child was found in Merrylands West early this morning.

Officers were called to the vicinity of Lucy Street by a resident who heard crying noises at about 2.30am on Tuesday, April 18. 

Subsequently the concerned resident went outside and located a child who appeared to be distressed and was alone.

The resident contacted police and officers from Holroyd attended and commenced investigations.

The officers searched surrounding streets but were unable to locate parents or carers of the child.

The boy was taken to Merrylands Police Station where he is being cared for by the officers. Other Government agencies have been informed.

Police are now trying to contact the parents or carers of the boy and have released a description of the child.

He is described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance and between 2 and 3 years of age.

The boy has black hair which is quite long at the front and brown eyes.

He was wearing a white singlet, blue and black fleece jumper with a panda bear motif.

The boy wore grey track pants which were rolled up just below his knees and white, grey and blue socks.
