Ruth Everuss remembers the first day when Auburn pool opened in 1959.

The former Olympic swimmer and Commonwealth Games gold medalist will return to the refurbished aquatic centre renamed in her honour this Saturday for an open day, 10am-3pm.

The free entry includes kids’ activities, swim squad demonstrations, inflatable fun, group fitness classes, giveaways and more.

“After my swimming career ended, I moved onto coaching, working alongside Don Talbot at Auburn pool. My forte was our schools’ program. Over the decades I grew the largest school’s program in Australia at the time. I can’t wait to come to the grand opening and see the new aquatic centre for myself,” Ms Everuss said.

The facility is open all year round. It has a 50 metre outdoor pool, a 25 metre indoor pool, private program pool, gyms and a kids splash pad.
