All happy to have space for more to learn

STUDENTS and teachers at Our Lady of Peace have benefited from a project funded under the Building the Education Revolution program introduced by the federal government.

The program saw $16.2 billion invested in Australian schools.

While the legitimacy of the funding was questioned by some, the Parramatta school has put the money towards building a new open space/agile learning classroom.

The concept sees multiple classes together in one room.

Our Lady of Peace teacher Kym Romanous said alternative teaching methods were a sign of the modern day classroom.

"When I went to school it was all talk and chalk," she said.

"In the room there are four classes with a minimum of four teachers.

"Children aren't learning at the same pace or doing the same activity at the same time. So there is more support staff assisting the children."

She said the concept had been welcomed by students and parents.

"It's early days yet but I think we are seeing results," she said.
