Special powers

The chief executive of Parramatta Council, Robert Lang, will be given special powers to make immediate decisions on investments and events in the city. The council voted this week to trial an activation program that lets Dr Lang make decisions that would usually need chamber approval.

Dr Lang will be able to direct council funds, allow the use of council sites and waive application fees. He said the powers were needed so the council could seize opportunities much quicker.

Councillors were told Dr Lang would have no specific budget limitations.

Cr Julia Finn said the chamber would need to check regularly whether his decisions were working or not. The council determined that Dr Lang should report on the program each quarter.
