More cameras

More security video cameras in the CBD have been called for by Parramatta Council. Lord Mayor John Chedid asked for a report on the extended use of cameras as crime deterrents in the city at Monday’s meeting. But some councillors were sceptical about the cameras’ worth.

Former lord mayor Lorraine Wearne said cameras made it easier for police to make arrests but did not stop crime. She said more visible police patrols was the best crime-prevention strategy but officers often did not patrol where cameras were used.
