The NRL Integrity Unit has been notified of a drunken Wollongong nightclub brawl involving at least two St George Illawarra Dragons players in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police arrested two men aged 23 and 25 near late-night Atchison Street haunt Fever Nightclub about 5am.
Earlier, a Port Kembla man left the street in a taxi with blood streaming from his head.
A witness has told the Mercury the man was injured when Dragons player Siliva Havili, ran at him and – catching him unaware - hit him to the head.
The man fell to the ground, hit his head on the roadside and was knocked unconscious.
Security personnel had broken up an earlier “scuffle” between a group of the injured man’s friends, and a group that included Dragons players Havili, Tim Lafai and Dunamis Lui, the witness said.
The fighting continued after the injured man departed.
Wollongong police stopped two men aged 23 and 25, and gave them a move-along direction.
Police say the pair were allegedly involved in an altercation with a group of males on Crown Street at short time later.
Police intervened, and the two men were arrested after failing to comply with directions.
Both men were taken to Wollongong Police Station and issued with infringement notices for continuing intoxicated behaviour after a move-on direction.
The Dragons were made aware of the incident on Monday, a club spokesman said.
“St George Illawarra Dragons were today made aware that certain contracted players were involved in an incident that occurred in Wollongong on Saturday night”.
“The Club and individuals concerned are cooperating with Police with their enquiries.”
Havili played a Test for New Zealand in 2014 and two games for Tonga, as well as 14 NRL games for the Warriors before shifting to Wollongong at the end of last season.
He played 10 games for the Dragons at lock and hooker this year and was part of the Illawarra Cutters NSW Premiership team on Saturday, alongside Lafai and Lui.
St George Illawarra then played against Wests at ANZ Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Lafai moved to the Dragons from the Bulldogs this season and has played 16 games, before being dropped to the Cutters this month.
