Brie Larson's pre-stylist red carpet pic: There's nothing wrong with this person

But, just three years ago the Academy Award winner was nominated for the Rising Star award at the Maui Film Festival, walking the red carpet in a dress she picked out from her wardrobe.

In a Throwback Thursday picture shared with her Instagram followers, Larson, 26, reflected on what it was like to turn up to red carpet events sans stylist when the former child star was not well enough known to attract the interest of designers.

"Before we went to the ceremony I felt flashes of embarrassment," the Room actress captioned the photo. "I worried I was too fat, too ugly, too depressingly banal to be honored. I cringed to take photos."

However, Larson told her 474,000 Instagram followers she now looks at the picture and "feel[s] only love for [herself]".

"There is nothing wrong with this person. She is honest and beautiful and committed to showing up for this life. I wish I saw myself then as I see myself now."

The throwback was fitting as, two days prior, Larson had taken to another one of her social media accounts – Twitter – to defend Ghostbusters actress Leslie Jones, who was forced to take a Twitter hiatus after revealing she was being relentlessly bullied on the site.

Jones, who made headlines this month after complaining no designer would style her for the red carpet (eventually, designer Christian Siriano saw her plea on Twitter and sent her to the film's premiere in an incredible off-the-shoulder number), had repeatedly been sent racist and sexist images and taunts by opponents of the new, all-female Ghostbusters remake.

Using the hashtag of Jones' supporters, Larson tweeted that she had "unlimited #LoveforLeslieJ" and "no tolerance for hateful remarks".
