Ride2Work day October 17

Workers are encouraged to join thousands of others across the country on Wednesday October 17, for Australia's biggest celebration of bike riding - Ride2Work Day.

Parramatta City Council will be holding a free community breakfast on the day for cyclists, from 7am to 9am at David Frater Reserve, next to the Parramatta River foreshore and near Lennox Bridge. Tea, coffee and delicious treats will be served to sustain cyclists on their ride to work.

Lord mayor of Parramatta John Chedid said Ride2Work Day is the perfect opportunity for workers to take up and keep riding to work.

“Council is pleased to be encouraging workers to ride to work instead of driving, not only for this one day event but also for the long term,” he said.

“By riding to work, you can reduce your environmental impact, improve your health and avoid sitting in traffic.

“Leave for work a little earlier so you have time to stop and enjoy the breakfast and meet other cyclists who work or live in our community,” Cr Chedid said.

Parramatta is home to a number of cycle-friendly facilities including cycle ways and secure bike lockers.

Some of the cycle routes in Parramatta include Parramatta Park, the Parramatta Valley Cycle Way in Ryde as well as the T-Way.

Secure bicycle lockers are available at Parramatta Wharf and Parramatta Railway Station, and within the City Centre at two locations – Erby and Howood Place carparks.
