AS AUSTRALIA’S population ages, aged-care services are becoming even more valuable within the community. While many are opting for care options in the form of nursing homes or retirement villages, First Call Nursing provides the same level of care, all from the comfort of your home.
The Liverpool-based service provides support for those who are frail aged, disabled and/or the recovering patient who want to live independently. Breeda Kelly, from First Care Nursing, said there are many benefits to using homecare services as opposed to nursing homes.
‘‘People can remain in their own homes, access their community and stay involved with people and activities in their area,’’ she said.
‘‘They can be supported in attending school, work, activities and /or appointment.’’ The organisation has provided support services in the area since 2000 and Ms Kelly has watched it grow over the last 16 years. The service has a diverse multi-national client/patient base and support team. As well as providing personal care, respite and dementia support, First Call Nursing provides a companionship service, which Ms Kelly said is an invaluable part of the homecare service.
‘‘“This service provides a companion to accompany clients for a few hours at a time or for much longer periods, such as on vacation” assisting people to live the life they want,’’ she said.
Ms Kelly said in the past few years, the aged-care sector has changed immensely, with First Care Nursing being at the forefront of that change. “It’s all about respecting clients/patients decisions about how they want to live,” she said.
