THE Parramatta District Cricket Club first grade side experienced a heartbreaking loss in their opening game of the season at Old Kings Oval.
Parramatta resumed play at 1/66 at the weekend after St George posted 260 the week before.
The hosts looked good as Brenton Cherry notched up his half century.
But the flood gates opened when he was dismissed for 55 and three quick wickets followed.
As the game wore on, the momentum shifted back and forth between the two teams.
The ninth wicket fell with just 12 runs needed for the win.
But it wasn't to be as Parramatta suffered their first loss of the season by one run.
In other grades the St George and Parramatta battles saw the away club finish on top.
St George had victories in second and fourth grade, while Parramatta recorded a win in third grade.
In fifth grade the game ended in a draw after St George managed to hold onto their wickets.
This weekend Parramatta first grade will face Randwick Petersham at Coogee.
