They may not be dressed in the blue and gold of the Parramatta Eels, or the orange, grey and white of the GWS Giants, but it’s NSW versus Victoria in the NRL and AFL grand finals this weekend.
The battle lines have been drawn and support has come from some unlikely sources.
Last week GWS coach Kevin Sheedy turned his back on Melbourne and threw his support behind cross-town rivals the Sydney Swans.
‘‘It’s about Sydney and NSW against the others,’’ he said.
‘‘If Kieren Jack, Jarrad McVeigh and Craig Bird get to a grand final, it’s an enormous promotion for AFL in NSW.
‘‘There are a lot of great NSW players in the AFL and we don’t hear enough of them.’’
Sydney will have to overcome the task of the Lance Franklin led Hawthorn at the MCG on Saturday.
In the other code the hopes of NSW and western Sydney will rest on the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs will be looking to deny Melbourne their first legitimate premiership win since 1999.
And apart from the western Sydney connection, Parramatta fans can also cheer on former Eel turned Bulldog, Krisnan Inu this Sunday night.
One thing is certain, sport lovers will be glued to the lounge seat the entire long weekend.
