Parramatta MP Julie Owens, Prime Minister Julia Gillard and School Education Minister Peter Garrett have met with Catholic and independent school representatives to discuss funding cuts.
Ms Owens said a number of local schools would be affected.
‘‘Local schools like Mother Teresa Primary in Westmead or Holroyd Special School in Merrylands have every reason to be concerned,’’ she said.
‘‘We were told today that cuts to funding for non-government schools will mean higher fees, bigger classes and fewer curriculum choices.’’
Ms Owen said secondary schooling institutions would also feel the affect.
‘‘The NSW government’s education cuts also hit public schools and TAFEs, increasing TAFE fees by up to $150 for students.’’
