St George Illawarra Dragons five-eighth Gareth Widdop said they control their own destiny in the run towards the finals.
The Dragons are eighth on 26 points and have two games to play starting with the Gold Coast Titans on Sunday at Cbus Super Stadium, Robina, at 4pm.
A win over the Titans will cement a top eight berth; a loss could prove a worrying week ahead as they face the Wests Tigers in the final round at ANZ Stadium on Saturday, September 5.
Widdop said they decide their own fate in 2015.
‘‘I suppose any of those teams that are struggling to make the eight, or can't make the eight, you never know what they are going to toss up,’’ Widdop said.
‘‘First and foremost we need to make sure we perform well.’’
The Dragons have been bolstered by the return of winger Jason Nightingale after three weeks on the sidelines with a foot injury.
Dragons coach Paul McGregor said Nightingale has trained well this week.
The Dragons and Titans have met 14 times since 2007, the first year the Titans joined the NRL, and hold a 10-4 winning advantage.
The Dragons have won four of the six clashes at Cbus Super Stadium, the Titans’ home ground.
