Colourful characters converged on Rosehill Gardens over the weekend for the biggest Japanese pop-culture event in Australia.
The Smash! Manga and Anime Show 2015 was a huge success, with 17,000 cosplayers from across the state in attendance.
There were robots, ninjas, demons, assassins and sexy schoolgirls who were sometimes actually men.
Smash! publicist Susan Ma, said the convention was the biggest turn-out they’ve ever had.
The event, now in its ninth year, drew crowds with international guests including voice actors, Japanese media personalities and musicians.
As well as meet with celebrities, attendees competed with one another in cosplay competitions and karaoke.
They could enjoy artworks and merchandise from anime vendors or build their own city-leveling robot in the Gundam plastic model workshop.
Noriaki Sugiyama, voice actor from the wildly popular series Naruto was there to meet with fans.
And performing an anime concert were J-pop duo Garnidelia and singer Nagi Yanagi.
For its tenth year anniversary, Ma said they would be looking to out do themselves.
‘‘Next year will be our tenth and it would be a very big and exciting year for us,’’ she said.
‘‘We’re gearing up for another major year, and hopefully it will be much bigger and much better.’’
