MARGARET Bannister (pictured above) wants people to stop and smell the wisteria on Saturday.
She is the nursing unit manager at Cumberland Hospital, where the Wisteria Gardens fete is on over the next two weekends.
"If you haven't done, you have to try the hamburgers and the Devonshire teas," said Ms Bannister, the fete committee's president.
There will be visits from Mr Bean and Elvis, performances by the Parramatta RSL Caledonian Pipe Band, slot cars, a jumping castle, ferris wheel, face painting, stalls, and rides on a quad bike — or Shetland pony. Merrylands artist Michael Zaiter will also exhibit his work.
Wisteria Gardens is on the grounds of Cumberland Hospital, along with Glengarriff House — originally built in 1906 for Dr Williamson, the superintendent of the Parramatta Lunatic Asylum, and now used as a hospital museum.
