More th
an 60 per cent of votes have now
been counted in most Holroyd polling booth and some of the results of yesterday's local government election are slowly emerging.
Holroyd Council has four wards: north, east, south and west and three councillors are elected to each ward.
All four wards were split one Labor, one Liberal and one Holroyd Independent in 2008.
The Liberal Party has won 36.8 per cent of the votes counted so far, with Labor winning 31.7 per cent.
This amounts to a 4.6 per cent swing to the Liberal party and a 5 per cent swing away from the Labor party in the local government area.
The Holroyd Independents, led by the most recent mayor, Yvette Whitfield, have won 17.5 per cent of the votes counted so far and at this stage have suffered an 11.5 per cent swing against them.
In the North Ward the Holroyd Independents, led by Ms Whifield have won 17.9 per cent of the votes counted in the ward so far.
A separate group of independents led by sitting councillor Mark Pigram, has won 9 per cent of the votes so far.
The Liberals have won 31.7 per cent of the votes in the ward so far and Labor have won 32.6.
Another group of independents, led by sitting councillor Gregg Ritchie, who was previously a member of the Liberal party, but was not preselected to run on their ticket for this election, have won 7.3 per cent of the vote.
In the South Ward, the Holroyd Independents, with former mayor John Brodie as first on their ballot, have won 29.6 per cent of the vote.
The Liberals, led by sitting councillor Nasr Kafrouni have won 32.6 per cent of the votes counted so far and Labor, led by sitting councillor Pam Colman have won 23.5 per cent of the vote.
Another group of independents has won 10.8 per cent of the vote.
In the West Ward Labor, led by sitting councillor Greg Cummings won 35.4 per cent of the votes counted so far and the Liberals led by Ross Grove won 46.6 per cent of the vote.
The Holroyd Independents, with sitting councillor John Perry, the first on their ticket have won 18 per cent of the votes counted so far.
In the East Ward, the Labor Party has won 35.6 of the votes counted so far and Labor has won 31.7.
Sitting councillor Peter Monaghan was the first on the ticket for Labor.
A group of independents lead by sitting councillor Eddie Sarkis, who was previously a Liberal, but was not endorsed by the party to run in this election, has won 19.9 per cent of the vote counted so far.
The Unity Party has won 12.5 per cent of the votes in the ward.
