Parramatta and Holroyd local government elections polls close

Polls have now closed to those voting in the Parramatta and Holroyd Council local government elections.

The polling places in the two council areas were open from 8am to 6pm today.

Electoral commission workers will now start counting ballots and some results should be available from this evening.

Some voters expressed a lack of interest in council politics at poll booths in Parramatta central business district.

Many said they only voted to avoid paying the $55 fine for failing to vote.

Council election campaigns in both Parramatta and Holroyd were controversial this time around with candidates being accused of not living in their electorate and participating in improper fundraising events.

More to come.
