West Indies captain Jason Holder has guaranteed victory over the United Arab Emirates in their final World Cup Pool B round robin game next Sunday (March 15).
But while the 23-year-old said he has a good relationship with most of his players, he said that they all had to work together if they wanted to turn their fortunes around and play a part in the knockout stages of the tournament.
Batting at No.9, Holder top scored for his side in their past two games, scoring 57 in the four-wicket loss to India at the WACA Ground on Friday night and 56 in the 257-run smashing at the South Africa at the SCG on February 27.
In each contest, only three batsmen above him made double figures, Jonathan Carter the only batsman in the top eight to do it twice (21 and 10).
Chris Gayle produced a bizarre innings of 21 on Friday in which he appeared to be caught behind on his first ball, but was given not out.
Then, in the space of nine deliveries, he hit two fours and a six, ran out his teammate Marlon Samuels and was dropped twice by Indian fieldsmen.
It's not fair to pick on one batsman, but Gayle's attitude in that opening nine overs, including his lack of desire (or ability) to run singles, set the tone for the entire West Indian innings.
It is something Holder knows he has to address.
"Well, I have a very good relationship with most players," he said.
"We just sort of unlace things, try to work out stuff. Obviously we didn't bat well in this game, we didn't bat well in the last game, so we just need to address a few areas.
"But we just need to be honest with ourselves and we just didn't bat well enough in these last two games, and the batsmen just need to be accountable for putting runs on the board."
The West Indies did well in taking six wickets and making a contest of the game with such a small score on the board.
And while he admitted that conceding 26 extras (including 19 wides) was probably too high, he said that that figure was a byproduct of his side not putting enough runs on the board.
They strayed from a good line in a bid to be aggressive and take wickets. India was always going to win if they could face their 50 overs.
The West Indies were 7-85 before the skipper's innings saw them scramble to 182 from 44.2 overs.
Kemar Roach was the worst offender with five wides and two no balls; followed quickly by Andre Russell's five wides and one no ball.
"Yeah, in the circumstances where we bowl, we needed to be aggressive," he said. "It was quite clear that the short ball was working for us, so I asked my bowlers to be aggressive.
"I would give up one or two wides for that. Probably 19 is a little bit too much, but in looking for wickets you have to take risks, and that was just ours, to deal with the short delivery."
So now the West Indies sit and wait for other results to fall their way.
Not much needs to go their way for them to progress to the knock out stages of the tournament.
As long as South Africa beats Pakistan (March 7) and India beats Ireland (Tuesday), they should be OK.
And they need to be beat the UAE.
"Well, I can only control what I can control. Whatever happens in those last preliminary games is beyond my control," Holder said.
"What I can control is the game against UAE, and I can assure you that we are going to win that game by all means, and we just need to be aggressive and finish this preliminary round in a good manner.
"We've got one more game and we've got some time off before that last game, so we've got to sit and wait and see how the table looks before our last game, and then we come up with a plan and a strategy how we go forward."
