Her Excellency the Honourable Dame Marie Bashir AD CVO, Governor of New South Wales will be the guest of honour at a community event to celebrate the achievements of people with disabilities in Parramatta on Friday 12 September.
Western Sydney disability service provider Northcott will hold its annual Walk With Me event on the banks of the Parramatta River with Western Sydney businesses, schools, families and their friends invited to take part.
Part of a series of events being held around the country, Walk With Me gives the community a chance to recognise, support and celebrate diversity in an inclusive and fun environment.
All money raised from the event will go towards funding Northcott’s local services in Parramatta, Casula, Campbelltown and Penrith.
Northcott’s event organiser Priscilla Leong said Walk With Me is all about connecting people of all abilities.
“One in five Australians are living with a disability – that means most people will know either a family member, friend, neighbour or colleague that deal with a vast array of challenges on a daily basis,” she said.
’We’re asking people to come walk with a mate and take time to acknowledge someone with a disability, learn about the challenges they face, celebrate their abilities and walk in their shoes.
“We have a reptile show, drumming performances, pre-walk workout, face painting and more planned.
“The Rotary Club of Parramatta City will be cooking a delicious lunch and we have awesome prizes up for grabs for the most creative individual and teams who come dressed as their favorite superhero.”
Walk With Me gets underway at 11.30am on Friday 12 September. To register for Walk With Me or to donate visit www.walkwithme.org.au.
