A woman has been attacked with a shovel, during an attempted carjacking in Parramatta on Thursday.
Police said a 56-year-old woman was driving her white Mitsubishi Lancer along Kissing Point Road, Dundas when she stopped on Rippon Avenue to use her mobile phone at about 10pm.
Police will allege a man, armed with a shovel, has approached the car and hit it with the shovel, yelling at the woman to get out of the car.
He allegedly opened the driver’s side door and struck the woman in the head and arms before stealing her mobile phone.
She drove from the scene to a service station and police were contacted.
The woman was taken to hospital and suffered several lacerations to her face, nose and arms.
Police then searched the surrounding area and at 10.45pm, with the assistance of a police dog, located a man on Rippon Avenue.
He was searched and a mobile phone seized.
The 32-year-old man was taken to Parramatta Police Station and later to Westmead Hospital where he remains under police guard.
Police inquiries into the incident are continuing.
