GARBAGE bin collection has been suspended in the Parramatta Council area and most other council areas across Australia — but not Holroyd.
Waste management contractors Cleanaway have voluntarily grounded their entire 2800-vehicle fleet nationwide following an accident in which two people died in South Australia.
Inspections will be carried out on every Cleanaway vehicle to ensure that safety standards are met.
‘‘We are advising residents whose bins are due for collection today, tomorrow, or Friday to leave their bins on the kerbside,’’ a Parramatta council spokesman said.
‘‘The bins will be collected as soon as possible but we have been advised the delay is likely to result in bins being collected around one day later than usual.
‘‘Priority will be given to general waste bins, due to the risk of waste such as food scraps decomposing and causing odours.’’
Holroyd Council’s spokeswoman said Holroyd’s garbage collection services would remain unaffected, as they do not use Cleanaway to collect rubbish across the city.
