Teenager stabbed in Merrylands

A 19-year-old man was stabbed during a fight in Merrylands yesterday.

Police said two car loads of people drove to Bertha Street, Merrylands where they began to fight each other about 12.20pm yesterday.

During the fight a 19-year-old man was stabbed once to the chest with a flick knife, police said.

Police were called and quickly attended the scene where they arrested six males all aged in their late teens to early 20s.

The injured man was taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment and later released.

Police will allege the man is refusing to co-operate with them or provide a statement.

During a search of Bertha Street police located a knife which will be forensically examined.

All six males were later released from police custody without charge pending further investigations.

Detectives from Rosehill Local Area Command are continuing their investigations into the fight and urge any witnesses to come forward.
