Red button draws crowds in Parramatta

Food stall operators in Church Street Mall took advantage of extra business, when thousands of people lined up to “push the button” in front of Parramatta Town Hall this week.

Watch our video of residents pushing the button, filmed by Carlos Furtado, below:

The mysterious red button was installed by 2day FM on Monday, August 13 and attracted 22,342 people who hoped to claim one of the secret prizes.

Robert Pfrogner set up his stall, Oktoberfest Hut, close to the button, to feed potential customers who came to push the button during their lunch break.

“It looks busy, but we will know in about two hours if this button was good for business,” said Mr Pfrogner.

“That's all we want.”

Many of the contenders had great plans for what they anticipated to be a cash prize.

“I came during my break because I had a dream I won the money and I have a wedding coming up so I just want $40,000 and I’ll be happy,” said 22-year-old Joanna Tasso.

One lucky North Parramatta resident was showered with flowers and cash when she pushed the button and won $5000 on Tuesday.

Despite all the hype, pushing the button was not a priority for Mr Pfrongner who was too busy serving bratwurst sausages.

“I’ll probably wait til it dies down after lunch and try my luck.”
