A man will appear in court today after being arrested by an off-duty police officer during a domestic incident in Guildford last night, Wednesday, August 8.
The 24-year-old Guildford man has been charged with five offences included assault police, possess unregistered firearm, possess unauthorised pistol, fail to secure firearm safely and fail to secure ammunition safely.
Inquiries are continuing regarding possible charges of domestic violence.
He was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court today.
The incident began about 11.45pm yesterday (Wednesday 8 August), an argument occurred between a 24-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman inside a unit on Cross Street in Guildford. During the incident the man allegedly produced a fully loaded hand gun and threatened the woman.
An off-duty constable heard the commotion and immediately went to the woman’s aid. He managed to restrain and unarm the man.
The 24-year-man Guildford was formally arrested and the gun seized. He was treated at Westmead Hospital and released into police custody.
