Bridge fountain to lure visitors to Parramatta

PARRAMATTA’S fountain bridge will attract people to the river foreshore, lord mayor Lorraine Wearne said at its official launch.

Councillor Wearne opened Australia’s first fountain bridge — on the Barry Wilde Bridge — on Friday.

As the fountain lit the banks of Parramatta River, Richard James, of Castle Hill, said he was impressed.

‘‘I think it’s fantastic,’’ he said.

‘‘It adds a cultural attraction that will bring people down here.

"I think it gives people something to come and sit around and watch.’’

Cr Wearne said the fountain would soon be a feature surrounded by new developments.
