Former Granville MP and Parramatta Mayor David Borger has been appointed as the western Sydney director for the Sydney Business Chamber.
NSW Business Chamber chief exectuive Stephen Cartwright said yeasterday that the former Roads Minister, Mr Borger was the first person to be appointed to the new position.
Mr Borger will join the State’s peak business organisation on August 13 and be based at the new offices in the Parramatta central business district.
"David Borger brings a great deal of experience in both local and state Government to the role.
"As a former Lord Mayor of Parramatta, Member for Granville, and Minister for Roads, Housing, and Western Sydney, David is in a unique position to understand the issues confronted by the business community in western Sydney," Mr Cartwright said.
“This appointment highlights just how seriously the chamber takes the western Sydney economy, and having a person of David’s stature on the ground will be a tremendous boost for local businesses.”
Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber, Patricia Forsythe said western Sydney is a vital part of the State’s economy with 150 of the top 500 Australian companies having operations in Western Sydney.
"An indication of how important western Sydney is to the State Government is shown by the fact that Barry O’Farrell made himself the Minister for Western Sydney when he became Premier,” Ms Forsythe said.
“David is well regarded in both government and business circles and he has the respect of the local community, which will enable him to contribute to the ongoing dialogue surrounding the future of Western Sydney.
Mr Borger said his time in local and state government had made him acutely aware of the challenges and opportunities facing Western Sydney and he would eagerly bring his experience and insight to his new role.
