THERE are many services in Parramatta for homeless people, as well as those on the brink.
Executive director of The Hills Holroyd Parramatta Migrant Resource Centre, Melissa Monteiro, said it was uncommon for migrants like Taheen Al Khafagey to find themselves homeless.
But she understood how it could happen.
"Real estate agents put them in the too-hard basket," she said.
"They often don't have referees or identification.
"Employment is often difficult. Migrants come here with overseas qualifications and find it difficult to get them recognised here.
"They have all these hopes and dreams of coming to Australia and doing something big . . . then have to start from scratch."
Ms Monteiro's organisation could provide employment, language and accommodation support to any new migrants in need of help, she said.
Mission Australia also provides services for those homeless and struggling families.
Factors that lead people to life on the streets usually include mental health problems, domestic violence or a family break-up.
