Best and bravest in front line honoured

Twenty-three of the bravest and most honourable local front line service officers and nurses were recognised last night (14 August) at the Lord Mayor's Front Line Services Awards.

Held at Oatlands House, the special awards ceremony celebrated the contribution of personnel from local services including Police, Fire and Rescue NSW, Ambulance Service of NSW, the Royal NSW Lancers and nurses at Westmead Hospital.

“The Front Line Services Awards are a token of our City’s appreciation for those who have gone above and beyond for the call of duty and have faced dangers to keep us safe,” Cr Chedid said.

“We are privileged to have such role models in Parramatta and it’s an honour to be able to recognise their acts of selfless bravery, mateship and dedication to their line of work.

“Winners were awarded as part of four categories - Beyond the Call of Duty, Mateship, Bravery and Health and Wellbeing.

“They include Leading Senior Constable Todd Kirk, who received a Beyond the Call of Duty Award for helping rescue a man trapped under a building on fire, and Constable Michael Blades, who was given a Mateship Award for offering tremendous support and friendship to a colleague who was diagnosed with cancer.

“On behalf of the city, I congratulate this year’s award winners who went above and beyond the call of duty, and in particular, overcame fears in order to protect the community,” Cr Chedid said.
