Man jumps from car during police pursuit in Auburn

A man is in hospital after jumping from a moving car during a police chace on the corner of Rawson and Station Streets, Auburn.

Fairfield Highway Patrol officers initiated a pursuit after observing a Range Rover four-wheel-drive travel through a stop sign about 11pm yesterday, Tuesday, May 1.

They followed the vehicle into the Auburn central business district.

At the intersection of Rawson and Station Streets, the driver of the Range Rover leapt from the moving vehicle.

The four-wheel-drive continued on and slammed into a light pole outside a hotel.

Police slowed their patrol vehicle but were unable to avoid hitting the man.

NSW Ambulance Paramedics were called to the scene and the 24-year-old local man was taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment of lacerations and bruising.

He remains in hospital under observation.

A crime scene was secured at the crash site and examined by forensics officers.

Detectives from Flemington Local Area Command have spoken with a number of witnesses.
