Leaders behind bars

IT IS news that is sure to put a smile on many residents' faces: Parramatta's community leaders are getting locked up.

Community leaders will voluntarily wear a prison suit and enter a makeshift prison cell outside the town hall to raise money for the Parramatta PCYC.

To post bail, $500 must be raised.

Owner of OneWorld Bar on Church Street, Rod Salmon, will be one of the prisoners for a day.

"I'm a little bit nervous about being a prisoner," Mr Salmon said.

"We have to stay in there until someone bails us out. I hope I get bailed out."

The 52-year-old has been a part of the Parramatta landscape for almost 20 years.

He also donated $50,000 to the PCYC recently.

"We donated the money to stop kids from doing stupid things and falling off the rails," Mr Salmon said.

"I've worked in Parramatta since 1994 and I am here every day of my life.

"I'm a local business owner and support the PCYC and what they do in the area.

"We like to help out when we can."

¦ Do Time to Keep Kids Out of Crime will be held at Parramatta Town Hall on Tuesday, April 17, from 10am till 2pm.
