A man was hit in the head with a hammer during an attempted break-in to his house in Mayfield Street, Wentworthville in the early hours of this morning.
Shortly before 1am on Monday, March 19, a man, aged in his 20s, was in the upstairs bedroom of his house when he heard a commotion and went to investigate.
Police have been told after opening the front door the man was confronted by one of the intruders who hit him on the head with a hammer.
The injured man managed to shut and lock the front door and the group fled.
The man was immediately taken to hospital for treatment.
Parramatta detectives established a crime scene and canvassedthe area with assistance from the dog unit.
Other family members who were home at the time were not injured.
