Merrylands 14-year-old Michael Flores, seen on Australia's Got Talent, is in Las Vegas to compete in the World Hip Hop Dance Championships.
The Parramatta Marist student and Ziggity Crew member will perform from August 6-10 in the varsity division of the championships against dancers from 43 countries.
‘‘I’m competing against adults, which is pretty nerve racking but at the same time awesome,’’ Michael told the Sun from Las Vegas.
Father Reynaldo Flores said his son had been dancing since he was eight and had made it into multiple talent shows, including when his dance crew made it to the semi finals of Australia’s Got Talent in 2012.
‘‘I’m really, really proud of him, to be able to achieve all these things at this stage,’’ Mr Flores said. ‘‘This is the second time he’s represented Australia in the world championships. When he was 9, he was in the junior division.’’
Mr Flores said Michael took to dancing after watching his older sister’s Talent Zone dance classes at Merrylands when he was little.
"He loves hip hop. He mainly does krumping, all styles of locking, robot and freestyler."
On August 5, Holroyd council will consider at its meeting whether to assist the Flores family with Michael’s travel costs with a $500 donation as part of its youth support program, after Michael requested the donation in June.
