After a week off to refresh the Goannas Seniors were looking to make it 7 straight when they took on St George at Goanna Park.
After a narrow victory over the Dragons the last time they met, the Goannas knew they would be in for a scrap, and this was evident early as both teams fought hard to gain the upper hand, with the Goannas taking a 2 point lead into quarter time.
The second quarter saw scoring chances at a premium as the game became a real arm wrestle.
St George got the only goal for the term to take a 5 point lead into the long break, but with their top 3 hopes on the line the Goannas lifted in the third term. The home team was able to take control of the game, and a 5 goal to 1 quarter saw the Goannas open up a 19 point lead going into the last change.
The last quarter saw the Goannas miss a number of chances to put the game to rest, and with the Dragons taking their opportunities there were some nervous moments however the home team held on for a 16 point win.
Taigen Dubbelde was best on ground with a fantastic game through the midfield, with Luke Pierce also providing plenty of run and Stuart McKinley plenty of muscle.
Ben Rogers was solid as ever up forward, while Michael Stacey and Sunny Gillled the way for the backline.
As it turned out, the Goannas were the only top 5 team to get a win, proving how even the competition is and how important it is to keep notching victories.
