Get your hands dirty for a good cause this weekend at Holroyd council’s National Tree Day events, which will be held on July 27 from 10am to 12pm at Kelly Park, Oramzi Road, Girraween and at Greystanes Sportsground, Merrylands Road at Greystanes.
Volunteers can register on arrival at 10am for the two-hour events and park off-site in nearby streets.
Council staff will demonstrate planting techniques and provide gloves, spades and sunscreen.
Each volunteer will be presented with a certificate of recognition for their contribution.
In the lead up to Sunday’s event, Holroyd council will offer up to 40 local native plants to schools within the Holroyd local government area for School’s Tree Day tomorrow, July 25.
National Tree Day is coordinated by Planet Ark.
A range of tree planting events will also take place on July 27 in Parramatta, including at Kariwara Street Reserve, Dundas from 10am to 1pm where residents can help plant native plants and meet Australian wildlife, with a free barbeque lunch provided.
The Vineyard Creek bush care group will also be holding a National Tree Day event at Robert Green Forest, Oatlands where 600 native trees, shrubs, and grasses will be planted.
