Alleged mail thief confronted North Parramatta

An Old Guildford man is assisting with inquiries after a resident confronted a man allegedly stealing mail from the letterboxes of a North Parramatta unit complex.

About 12.15pm today (Monday 14 July 2014), a resident located a man at the letter boxes of the Harold Street building.

The resident has confronted the 37-year-old and the pair became involved in a short struggle.

The Old Guildford man has ran from the area and was last seen heading along Church Street.

The resident flagged down a member of the NSW Police Force Motorcycle Response Team who pursued the 37-year-old on foot through a number of residential properties with the assistance of police from Parramatta and Rosehill local area commands, Dog Unit and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command.

The male was arrested a short time later in the rear of a nearby unit block.

He is assisting with inquiries at Parramatta Police Station and charges are expected to be laid.
