CANCER survivor and self-confessed "pocket rocket" Lara Witchard will participate in the 2014 Ride to Conquer Cancer fund-raiser.

The Parramatta resident, 28, will cycle 200 kilometres on October 11 and 12 alongside thousands of other participants through scenic countryside to raise funds to support the in-patient care program at the Chris O'Brien Life House in Sydney.

Her bid to raise funds for cancer research is also a celebration of her life as a cancer survivor — a journey which has turned her world upside down.

"I was 23 years old when I was diagnosed with my first cancer, stage 2 level 2 melanoma," she said.

"To hear the word cancer come out of my mouth was a tough reality."

She had three operations, had to rest her leg for several months for the muscle to heal then did several months of physical therapy with personal trainers.

The Ride is on October 11 and 12.

Previous campaigns in NSW raised more than $9.8 million for the Chris O'Brien Lifehouse cancer research.
