Little Wings Westmead gets $10K grant

Westmead-based community organisation Little Wings has been awarded a $10,000 Westpac Foundation Community Grant to support their work with sick kids and their families at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

Little Wings provides a free regional flight service for children with cancer-related illness who are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The aim is to lessen travel fatigue, financial burden, emotional strain and the length of the separation between children and their families.

Little Wings founder Kevin Robinson said he was absolutely thrilled to be acknowledged by a big company like Westpac.

"We’re a small organisation servicing New South Wales with plans to one day provide a national service. This grant will help us grow and help us to continue to provide this vital service,” Mr Robinson said.

“Our pilots are all volunteers and we survive solely on donations so the funding boost will go towards operational costs such as fuel and maintenance."

Little Wings have made 165 flights in the last 10 months and helped 385 people in that time.
