Twenty-two youths attended the Parramatta District Scouts Leadership Course at Northmead on Friday.
The course provided suitable leadership skills, utilising a practical "hands on" approach.
As well as enjoying camping and bushcraft, the children also enjoyed flying in the Scouts own Cesna aircraft, canoeing, participating in conservation activities, abseiling rock walls, training in first aid and assisting local community organisations.
The youths who attended the course this weekend will now return to their troops to train the younger scouts to pass on their skills to the new generation of Scouts doing fun hands on activities, under the guidance of their leaders.
This method of the older scouts training the younger scouts in small groups of 4-8 youths is known as the patrol system – the system established by Lord Baden Powell.
Wentworthville are looking to start a new cub pack for ages 8-10, and there are vacancies in other joey mobs (ages 6-7), cub packs, scout troops (ages 11-14) and venturers (ages 15-18) at Murray Farm, North Rocks, Carlingford, Wentworthville, Northmead, Rydalmere, Parramatta, Ermington and Winston Hills.
