They may have stumbled at the last hurdle, but the Wanderers are the pride of the entire western suburbs.
Though they succumbed to the Brisbane Roar 2-1 at Suncorp Stadium before 51,000, the Wanderers in 2014 have shouted to the world that their home — the western suburbs of Sydney — is a region of achievement, a place to be proud of.
Like the Wanderers, western Sydney is full of successful stories, in a myriad of fields, sporting and non-sporting, business and community activities, in schools and universities and factories across the region.
But it has taken a phenomenal soccer club like the Wanderers, just two years after they were created from scratch, to send this powerful message to the world: western Sydney represents winners.
And make no mistake, the Wanderers belong to everyone in the west; they belong to Liverpool and Fairfield; and they also belong to Blacktown, Parramatta and Penrith.
Thanks to the Wanderers the rest of Sydney knows about what western Sydney is all about. It is about achievement through honest toil, and everyone working together.
