A convicted rapist accused of breaching a court order by removing his electronic tracking anklet has been arrested just over the NSW-Victoria border.
Daniel McQuilton, 27, was sentenced to five years and three months jail in 2009 over the random attack on a woman as she left a dance studio in Albury one winter evening the year before.
As part of his court-ordered supervision order following his release from prison, he was required to wear a tracking device on his ankle.
But police said that about 4.15pm on Wednesday, an alarm alerted Corrective Services personnel that his tracking device had been removed.
It was later found in Sydney CBD, and his last known location was in Oxford Square in Darlinghurst.
At 5am on Friday, McQuilton was arrested in Wodonga in Victoria.
Police said arrangements would be made for his extradition to New South Wales.
In 2009, McQuilton had begged to be locked up after approaching a woman from behind as she walked towards her vehicle in a car park and grabbed her, hit her and sexually assaulted her in Albury.
"I should be locked up for what I did," he told the District Court.
He also said he hadn't intended to sexually assault anyone, The Border Mail reported at the time.
"I had a lot of anger and frustration towards women in particular," he was reported to have told the court in 2009.
"I just wanted to release that anger."
