Child pedestrian in critical condition at Westmead

A boy is in a critical condition after being hit by a car at Westmead today (April 15).

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Hawkesbury Road and Mowle Street at 4.30pm in response to reports a child had been hit by a car.

Police and paramedics attended the scene where they found a boy, believed to be four-years-old, with serious head injuries.

They did CPR on the boy before he was taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition.

It’s believed he was crossing Hawkesbury Road with his mother and another child when they were hit by a grey Mazda 6.

The child’s mother was taken to Westmead Hospital with minor injuries.

The other child was not injured.

A woman who was driving the Mazda was not injured but taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.

Hawkesbury Road was closed while examinations of the scene took place.

Police are continuing investigations and have called for witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
