Fund-raising for the Bandaged Bear Appeal was in full force on Friday (March 27).
APC Prosthetics in Northmead held a Bandaged Bear breakfast and raised $3000 for the Limb Deficiency Clinic at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
Senior prosthetist Cameron Ward said ‘‘it was a great morning, well received and enjoyed by everyone’’.
‘‘Through breakfast, the raffle and donations on the day we managed to raise nearly $3000 on Friday,’’ Mr Ward said.
‘‘We now have over $5000 donated online and so are getting close to our $10,000 target.
‘‘We still have a little to come through from our first attempts in Newcastle and Melbourne.’’
To add to the fund-raising, more than 150 Telstra employees walked from their office in Martin Place to Westmead to raise funds for the hospital’s Radio Bed Rock Program.
Employees walked 30 kilometres and raised more than $43,000 during the second Telstra’s Walk to Westmead fund-raiser.
Telstra Walk to Westmead task force member Leanne Culina said although most people were still feeling stiff from the walk, it was worth it.
‘‘It was extremely cheerful and everyone had so much motivation,’’ Ms Culina said.
‘‘By the end most people were on the grass, but everyone still had a smile on their face.’’
More than 30 firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW rode in a 400-kilometre bike challenge to raise funds for the burns unit at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
Riders started their journey from Wagga Wagga and finished at Westmead.
Head of the burns unit, John Harvey, nurse unit manager Claudia Ponce and burns unit fellow Ela Hyland completed the final stage of the ride from Liverpool fire station.
Leading fire fighter at Liverpool Scott Henley said $60,000 had been raised so far.
‘‘I think everyone was relieved to reach Westmead because of the way weather has been at this time of the year,’’ Mr Henley said.
‘‘It was a sense of pride felt from the firefighters to raise money for the burns unit.
‘‘We also do a lot of education on the way at rural schools.’’
