Man arrested over double shooting at Merrylands

A 27-year-old man is assisting police with inquiries after an alleged double shooting at Merrylands overnight.

About 10.50pm, police have been told three males aged 17, 18 and 19 years, drove to Merrylands to purchase a mobile phone after responding to an ad on social media.

When they arrived at Lansdowne Street, they were flagged down by two men.

One got into the backseat of the car, allegedly armed with a gun, and demanded money and personal belongings while two more men approached the car.

There was an altercation inside the car and the 19-year-old was shot several times in the chest, stomach and arm.

The four men ran down street and the three men in the car drove to a nearby petrol station on Woodville Road and contacted emergency services.

It’s believed a resident of Lansdowne Street heard the incident and allegedly came across the men outside his home.

The 62-year-old was shot once in the chest before the men fled the area.

Police and paramedics attended and a crime scene was established.

The two injured men were taken to Westmead Hospital; the younger man is in a stable condition and the older man remains in a critical condition.

At 6am today, police searched a house in Lansdowne Street.

They arrested a 27-year-old; he is currently assisting with inquiries at Parramatta police station.

Police are continuing to look for a number of males who they believe may be able to assist with inquiries.
